Organiser Andi Chapple writes:

‘I’ve been interested in the relationship of music, image and word to the landscapes we inhabit for a very long time, but the past three years since I moved to Sedbergh and could immerse myself in the shapes, lights and sounds of the Western Dales has seen a strengthening of that interest. Sound Land is an event in which I present slow, layered, rich, meditative, surprising, beautiful sound that suggests landscapes and our place in them; some uses plain or processed field recordings, some is digital, some was made by groups of musicians or even by sculptures.

My current music making is mostly as a DJ, and most of the music will be other people’s. my role is to select good stuff, to sequence and overlay material, to react to the energy in the room at any particular time... and to tidy up afterwards.’

Andi adds: ‘Jonathan came to do two great performances of live transformation of the sounds from a couple of Tibetan Singing Bowls. His sets were very well received. People were fascinated to watch him generating the sound live but were a bit shy of asking what was going on. Jonathan was hoping people would ask what he was doing, but he was so obviously concentrating hard they didn’t approach.’
